We pride ourselves in our very thorough and meticulous adoption process. We aim to place our dogs in the best homes suited for them, and that can sometimes mean passing on many applications for any of our dogs.
Our adoption process starts with an adoption application. From there it can take up to 72 hours sometimes longer to review and respond to an applicant once their application is received.
Once we receive an application we begin the verifiction process, from reference checks from friends, a current veterinarian (if applicable), and more. As we do the verification process we ask all applicants to send photos of the main areas of their home that the animal will have access to (we aren't concerned about seeing what your bathroom looks like, nor judge how your home looks). This does not count as a physical homecheck which is also done and required prior to placement of any of our dogs.
We will do a phone interview with an applicant, and the applicant will have the opportunity to speak with the animal's current foster family should the animal not be in our personal care.
When the verification, reference checks, and phone interviews are complete we will arrange for you to come meet the animal. *All applicants must come themselves to see the dog they are applying for*
PLEASE NOTE: Our dogs come primarily from the states of California and Texas, so some of our dogs listed may not be in the state of colorado yet. Should this be the case, an applicant will be asked to come meet the dog once the dog is transported to the state and is decompressed from transport.
After a meet and greet has been done the applicant will let us know if they would like to proceed forward with adoption. Should you choose to proceed, all of our adoptions are done with a trial period of One Week.
(During the trial period we will NOT reimburse any costs for any vet visits made to an applicants personal vet.)
We require a deposit of half the dog's adoption fee *which is non-refundable* upfront prior to transportation of the animal to your home.
The deposit is required to be sent BEFORE the transport of the dog to another state. If you cannot proceed with adoption prior to transport you are required to notify us 24 hours in advance BEFORE the set pick up transport date. Failure to notify us will result in your deposit not being refunded and a tax deductible donation receipt will be emailed to you.
After the trial period is completed if you believe the dog is not the right fit for you, you will have the option of just returning the animal to us, or we can 'exchange' the animal for another in our rescue that may be a better fit.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Just because you've sent an application in for a specific does NOT guarantee that your home will be chosen or is the right fit for the particular dog you are interested in. We ONLY place our dogs in the best homes suited to THEM.
We strive to pair our dogs with the best families for them. Should you not be chosen, this does NOT mean you have been denied adoption. We are happy to find a dog that would best fit your home.
Adoption fees vary $100 - $500.
Our standard fee for most dogs is $300. Adoption fees can change and vary with each dog because every dog is different.
Adoption fees for our puppies can range between $400 to $500. More desirable puppies will have a higher adoption fee. Puppy adoptions generally help pay for the care of current adult dogs in the care of the rescue who aren't as desirable.
Adoption of our puppies includes;
3 puppy vaccines, microchip, deworming, spay and neuter when of age. Collar/leash/tag to go home with, along with a small bag of food your puppy is currently eating.
When you adopt one of our dogs the following is included with your dog;
Exam from our vet, all DHLPP/DH2PP/Bordatella/Rabies vaccinations (Lyme/Borrelisa & Leptospria is optional and generally not vaccinations we choose to do.), Spay/Neuter, Microchip, and a Fecal Testing. We also send home a small bag of the dog food they are currently eating, a basic collar and leash as well.
*Our protocols are still changing as we move forward and the above is subject to change as well
In honor and appreciation of our military and first responders who risk their lives for our saftey on a daily basis, we will discount our adoption fees for any of our pups to those who apply and note what service they provide for our wonderful country (military, police officer, EMT/Paramedic, fireman, etc).
